In 1985 he defended his candidate's thesis, and in 1993 - his doctoral dissertation (St. Petersburg State University). The academic title of associate professor was awarded in 1992, professor - in 1995.

He began working at the Department of General History of Altai State University in 1985. In 1999 he was elected to the post of Head of the Department of General History and International Relations. Head of the educational and scientific laboratory of Altai State University "Altai School of Political Studies".

Teaches courses: Image of the region; Intercultural interaction in the modern world; Civil society and the state in international relations; Central Asia in the International Cooperation System. Supervises the Master's program "International Cooperation: Economic, Political, Legal and Cultural Aspects". Conducts postgraduate training. Under his leadership, 10 Ph.D. theses were written, defended at AltSU, TSU, PermSU and in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Gave lectures in Kazakhstan and Italy.

Author of over 300 scientific papers, including those published in English, Italian and Ukrainian. Chairman of the Altai branch of the Russian Association of Political Science. Member of the editorial boards of the journals "World Economy and International Relations", "PolitBook", "Conflict Studies / nota bene", etc.
