FARSIGHTED INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMS: NORTHERN DIMENSION AND FUTURE OF EUROPEAN UNION AND RUSSIAN FEDERATION PARTNERSHIP

The article is dedicated to a comprehensive study of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the European Union within the framework of the Northern Dimension program. The author focuses on the historical preconditions for the formation of this policy and on the implementation of its projects on the territory of the Russian Federation. The article reflects the key goals of cooperation within the framework of this program. The role of Finland in initiating the integration policy of the European Union and Russia is assessed. The change in the role of Russia during the existence of the Northern Dimension and its formation as an equal participant in this program is emphasized. The article identifies the likely directions for future interaction between Russia and the European Union. The author concludes that, despite the aggravation of contradictions between Russia and the European Union and the difficult situation amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Northern Dimension program continues to work and look for vectors for further cooperation.
