Abstract:

Introduction. This study aims to identify socio-political threats associated with the historical memory of the North Caucasus, expressed in the regional media space through social networks and websites of local TV channels. The relevance of the chosen topic is determined by the need to overcome overt and latent interethnic tensions, including those based on historical memory, in the complex geopolitical realities of our time. Scientific novelty lies in the use of modern information processing technologies. The authors faced the following research questions: which points of historical memory are most relevant for each subject of the North Caucasus Federal District and how this is explained, as well as whether it is possible to determine this using digital technologies.
Materials and methods. Materials and methods. The authors chose the VKontakte social network, the Telegram messenger, and web versions of North Caucasian TV channels as sources, which is due to the technical features of the work. Content analysis was partially carried out by machine using the parsing method. The search for materials for content analysis was carried out using the author's set of keywords.
Results. During the work, the authors found that the most frequently mentioned point of historical memory in most subjects of the North Caucasus Federal District is the Caucasian War, while in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and the Republic of Ingushetia, the topic of the Prigorodny District, which is the subject of territorial disputes, dominates.
Conclusion. The data obtained will be part of the base on which the authors will «teach» the neural network model to perform labor-intensive operations with information at a higher speed and in much larger volumes than a researcher can do manually. Thus, the materials obtained during the study not only provide an idea of the points of historical memory in the media space of the North Caucasus, but can also help to improve the technical component of socio-humanitarian research.
