«NEW HUMANISM» OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF HISTORY OF M.A. VOLOSHIN

Abstract:

Voloshin’s philosophy of history is based on the principle of bonding of historical
periods: the events of the past as «parent forms» define the modern history. For instance, the
defeat of the Templars in the beginning of 14th century defined, by Voloshin, the «genealogy
of terror» of the French revolution, and this revolution, in turn, created the «parent form» of
revolutionary events in modern history, including Russian. Revolutions, according to
Voloshin, are not only linked to the idea of justice, but revenge. Hence, the genre of tragedy is
the code of history, in Voloshin’s term of view. His «new humanism» means the cultivation of
the humanity principles and personal solidarity with Others.
