THE CHARITABLE ACTIVITY OF MONASTERIES DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR

The article is devoted to analysis of the main forms of charitable activity of the
Orthodox monks during the First World War. Hastily converted into a monastic hospitals
and extended hospital opens new, as well as shelters for orphaned children. Nuns
and novices tended to the wounded, not only in their own monastic hospitals, but also
in others. Representatives of the black clergy served as confessors various military
units and health facilities. Some monks took up the post of regimental priests.
