Abstract:

The paper deals with the phenomenon of graffiti as an alternative public sphere in
the contemporary Arab world. The streets of Arab cities have been swept by a graffiti
wave during the events of the so-called “Arab Spring”. However graffiti was used in the
Middle East for the expression of the most difficult experiences of people long before
these events. Socio-political momentum of graffiti in the Arab world allows to consider
it as a powerful tool of expression of human aspirations, their fears and feelings.
