The article deals with the historical aspects of philosophy connected with shaping the mindset of Russian merchants, tendencies and special features typical for this time. The outstanding role of church, moral and religious upbringing, the role of the state in shaping the mindset of the merchant class is marked. The motivational aspects of the merchant class charitable activity linked with their mindset and considered as a part of Russian entrepreneurship are emphasized.
