Despite the globalization in the nowadays world we can trace the desire to manifest one's identity. The article points to the role of tradition in culture and the author makes attempts to consider celebration as a way to express ethnic traditions. The author describes the essence of the holiday as a phenomenon, as well as its importance in the formation of ethnic identity in the preservation of traditions. It is illustrated through Chuvash national holiday Akatui.
