The All-Union research institute of plant protection was created in 1929. In military years the institute continued to conduct researches on protection of crops against harmful organisms in blockade Leningrad, in the Arkhangelsk region, Altai Krai and Central Asia. After re-evacuation the institute began to develop actively and became the lead scientific institution of the country on plant protection.
