        <p>This article comprises a careful analysis of the Russian language role in the countries of the post-Soviet area. In addition, an attempt to reveal the reasons of this language’s loss of former authority and influence in some countries was made. The following topic is especially relevant in a detailed study of ethnic conflicts that arose after the collapse of the Soviet Union.</p>
