The article is devoted to the history of separatism in Xinjiang-Uygur Autonomous Region and the Politics of China regarding this territory. The situation in the region at the beginning of the XXI century is separately considered. The main separatist organizations operating in Xinjiang, in particular the Islamic Movement of East Turkestan, the methods of their activity as well as the prospects for Uyghur separatism are analyzed.
