The article examines the prospects for the development of civil society in the Russian Federation, using the ideology of civiс nationalism. In order to form an objective point of view, the article will also examine the origins of civic nationalism, its differences with ethnic nationalism, the concept of "nation" and the relationship between the above-mentioned ideas with one of the basic principles of international law - the self-determination of peoples.
