In the present article we study the background of Origen’s and Maximus the Confessor’s Christological concepts. The author shows that the course of development of the Eastern Christian thought has been directed against the Origen’s ideas, but only Maximus the Confessor was able to build a complete philosophical system, based on the synthesis of Cappadocian, that become the basis of Orthodox theology.
