        <p>The article examines the history of Arctic exploration. Particular attention is paid
to the activities of the so-called "Arctic Five": is Russia, USA, Canada, Denmark and
Norway. The analysis of the development of the coastal waters of the Arctic Ocean,
conditionally divided into the western direction (now the Canadian Northwest Passage,
Alaska coast and waters of Greenland) and eastern (Russian Northern Sea Route).</p>
